Galiano Gets A New Library!

On November 19, voters passed a referendum supporting plans for a new library on the site of Galiano Community School. Preliminary results are YES 482, No 446.

Thank you to all those who went to the polls, considered the benefits, and supported our vision of a welcoming public space for everyone to enjoy.

The successful referendum means Galiano will receive a $400,000 government grant, on top of the $150,000 already contributed by our generous donors. We will continue to look for ways to reduce costs through donated materials and services, ongoing fundraising and careful project management.

We look forward to working with you to build a lasting legacy for our community!

Building a Library – Building Community

WE ALL WANT A PROMISING FUTURE for Galiano Island. That means ensuring we have services and amenities that will attract people of all ages to our community.

Like a good library.

Modern libraries are community hubs, with new technology, public programs and meeting spaces, along with books and electronic resources available to all.

But the current Galiano Library cannot fulfill this role. We have no room for programs, no place to sit, narrow aisles and cramped work space for the volunteers who keep the library open.

That’s why the Galiano Library Society has developed plans for a new building that will meet the needs of the community now and into the future.

With your support on November 19, Galiano can benefit from a $400,000 BC government grant awarded to the project and move forward with this family-friendly initiative.
